WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. - Fog has delayed the start of the Olympic women's snowboard cross event at Cypress Mountain.

The competition was slated for 10 a.m. local time, but was pushed back to 11 and then noon for qualification runs. The final is now slated for 2:15 p.m.

Organizers said if the fog hadn't lifted for qualification by 1:30 p.m., the event will be postponed to another day.

Canadians Maelle Ricker and Dominique Maltais are among the local favourites.

The Cypress venue in West Vancouver, which is also home to freestyle skiing, has had plenty of weather problems, ranging from slushy snow to fog.
