Could the Raptors be even more hopeless than the Leafs?
Right now, the Toronto Raptors hold a verbal agreement* with Landry Fields and his agent, a contract-in-waiting worth three years and nearly $20 million. The New York Knicks swingman is a serviceable player, but the money has made the Raps a league-wide laughingstock. "Kudos to Toronto," ESPN.com's Bill Simmons mockingly Tweeted earlier this week." Any time you can spend $20 mill on an 11th man ... you have to do it."
By now, Raptors fans are a fragile bunch, quick to cringe when the team's front office gives prominent media personalities salt to rub in the wound. But, such is life for Canadian basketball fans, who are forced to follow a team that has stunk for four years yet still seems to be headed in the wrong direction. How did we get here? Here's a look back at the Raptors' history of groan-worthy mismanagement.
*The NBA cannot officially accept the transaction until July 11th. All figures in this feature are in USD.
