It will be the season that'll never begin. Wednesday, on the way to their first game of the year, 36 players, coaches and staff from the Kontinental Hockey League's Lokomotiv Yaroslavi team were killed in a plane crash in Central Russia. Brad McCrimmon, the team's Canadian coach, and Pavol Demitra, the former Vancouver Canuck star, are among those being mourned today.
Of course, the crash, which left 43 dead in total, is just the latest for a sporting world too familiar with tragedy. MSN looks back at some of sports' worst disasters.
