Sports' most lucrative contracts are often handed to names you know well: Pujols, Peyton, Kobe, A-Rod. But usually mega-paid stars are also long in the tooth, feted with big bucks because they have a career's worth of greatness to stand behind.

But it's a new day in athletics. Earlier this month, the L.A. Lakers exercised a team option on Andrew Bynum, agreeing to pay the 24-year-old $16.1 million for the '12-'13 season.
