Rangers ink Michael Del Zotto, Kings trade for Anthony Stewart: NHL moves

The New York Rangers wasted little time after the lockout officially ended.

The team announced on Sunday that they have agreed to a new contract with restricted free agent Michael Del Zotto and free agent defenceman Matt Gilroy.

Terms of the deals have not been released but multiple reports indicate Del Zotto was signed to a two-year contract.

The 22-year-old from Stouffville, Ont. scored 10 goals, added 31 assists in 77 regular season games last year for the Blueshirts.

The offensive-minded defenceman also had two goals and eight helpers in 20 playoff games in 2012.

Gilroy begins his second stint with the Rangers after spending 2011-12 with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators.

Gilroy played with the Connecticut Whale of the AHL during the lockout, registering six goals and nine assists in 34 games.

Kings acquire Stewart, picks for Westgarth

The Los Angeles Kings traded forward Kevin Westgarth to the Carolina Hurricanes for Anthony Stewart and a pair of draft picks.

The 28-year-old Stewart has 71 points in 262 career NHL games with the Hurricanes, Atlanta Thrashers and Florida Panthers.

The Hurricanes also sent a 2013 fourth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in 2014 to the Kings in exchange for Westgarth, who tallied a goal and an assist in 25 games with the Kings last season.

Flyers re-acquire Boucher, Canes sign Ellis

The Philadelphia Flyers and goalie Brian Boucher have been reunited.

The Flyers also picked up defenceman Mark Alt in a trade with the Hurricanes for centre Luke Pither.

Pither will be assigned to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

Pither, 23, has totaled 11 goals and 14 assists in 35 games with Trenton and Wheeling of the ECHL this season.

Later, the Canes replaced Boucher with free agent goalie Dan Ellis. Ellis, who spent parts of the past two seasons in Anaheim, signed a one-year prorated contract worth $650,000.

Canucks sign Barker

The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Cam Barker to a one-year deal. Terms were not disclosed.

Barker, 26, dressed in 23 games this season with the AHL Texas Stars, recording eight points and 24 penalty minutes. He spent the 2011-12 season with the Edmonton Oilers where he registered two points and 23 penalty minutes in 25 games.

Fehr heads back to Caps

The Washington Capitals signed right winger Eric Fehr to a one-year, $600,000 contract on Sunday.

Fehr, 27, recorded a team-high 13 goals and 25 points and was a plus-13 in 21 games with HPK of the SM-liiga in Finland this season. In 2011-12, Fehr tallied two goals, one assist and 12 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Winnipeg Jets. He was traded to Winnipeg by Washington on July 8, 2011, in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick (Thomas Di Pauli) and Danick Paquette.
