Raptors, Bulls discuss Bargnani-Boozer deal: report

One week after acquiring forward Rudy Gay from the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-way deal that also involved the Detroit Pistons, the Toronto Raptors are looking into adding another big name to their roster before the NBA's trade deadline on February 21.

According to an ESPN.com report, the Chicago Bulls are interested in working a trade that would send Carlos Boozer to Toronto in exchange for former first-round pick Andrea Bargnani.

Other players would need to be involved in the deal in order to accommodate both teams’ salary cap requirements and get closer to a formal trade.

The report said the Raptors may encounter a challenge when trying to fit both Gay and Boozer on their payroll. The power forward’s addition would push Toronto past the luxury tax line, a situation some believe would nix the trade.

The 31-year-old Boozer is owed around $32 million US over the next two years, plus the rest of his salary for the current season ($15 million), an amount of money the Raptors may not be in condition to absorb.

However, Raptors president Brian Colangelo told reporters after the Gay trade that he was ready to enter luxury-tax territory for the "right transaction."

Boozer, who was a candidate for amnesty release at the end of the season, is averaging 15.7 points and 9.6 rebounds in 45 games with Chicago.

The 27-year-old Bargnani returned to the Raptors lineup Wednesday after missing 26 games due to an elbow injury. The forward/centre has struggled this season, averaging 15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 22 games with Toronto.
