Depending on their colour, the bulky round Winter Olympic 2014 medals weigh between 460 and 531 grams and have a glass-polycarbonated insert with engravings of traditional designs from across various regions of Russia called 'Patchwork Quilt'. The front of the medals depict the Olympic rings whereas the other side of the medal will have the logo of Sochi 2014. The rim of the medal has the official name of the Games in Russian, English and French - XXII Olympic Games.
It is claimed that a record 1,300 medals were manufactured for Sochi 2014 because there will be more events than at any previous Winter Olympics. If that number sounds high, remember that many Winter Olympics sports have relays or team events in which gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to each team member.
